Community Outreach

Throughout the year, we roll up our sleeves and support the charities we hold dear to our hearts.

We combine our passion for community service and playing outdoors by working with Outdoor Outreach. Its programs support at-risk, underserved youth in San Diego County through activities such as surfing, snowboarding, rock climbing, mountain biking and more. Most recently, we spent a weekend in the desert participating in the organizationís annual fundraiser The Joshua Tree Experience. After raising $5K for this event, the Gurus enjoyed two days of rock climbing, bouldering, cave scrambling and camping under the stars.

Outdoor Outreachís Mission: To empower at-risk and underprivileged youth to make positive, lasting changes in their lives through comprehensive outdoor programming.

As a sponsor of the San Diego chapter's third annual Strides for Change Walk, we joined forces with Mothers Against Drunk Driving at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. In addition to having a walk team of Gurus, we hosted the first ever DMV.ORG Internet Cafe at the event. Walkers and spectators surfed the pages of MADD's national site, they registered as official members of MADD and they even learned valuable safety tips from our DMV.ORG experts and our flagship site.

MADD's Mission: To stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.

We enjoyed a glorious day of California sunshine and good ol' friendly competition in support of a charity that personally touches the members of our team. This year's 14th annual CF Volleyball Fest at Robb Field (Ocean Beach) brought together more than 250 setters, spikers and spectators for this fantastic cause. By the time the last serve crossed the net, the event had raised $10K. Sunburned and smiling, our team took first place in the Corporate/Novice division.

CFF's Mission: To assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease.

For the third year in a row, a company friend raised money for the South African children who have been (or soon will become) orphaned by HIV/AIDS. This local San Diego runner did so by gathering donations and then running the 2007 Comrades Marathon. The 89K footrace took him from the capital of the Kwazulu-Natal Province to Durban-a grueling but rewarding feat. Even more rewarding than crossing the finish line was that, with our donation, our runner raised $18K for the children Starfish supports.

Starfish Greathearts Foundation's Mission: To bring life, hope and opportunity to children in South Africa, who have been orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS.
